Aomori Gyosai Center

A popular market serving as the “kitchen” to local people. This market sells seafood of nearby sea, seafood from all around Japan, various local food and local dishes, etc. Popular among visitors is “Nokke seafood rice bowl” where you can chose your favorite seafood and side dishes to create your own rice bowl. First, purchase food tickets at the office and buy a bowl of rice with the tickets. Then, visit different stores and chose what you want to put on your bowl of rice, use the food tickets to purchase seafood and side dishes and have them put on your bowl of rice. You will have your own delicious original seafood rice bowl. You can enjoy your original seafood rice bowl at the free rest area in the market.

Attractive large scale Nebuta exhibit

Aomori City culture and tourism exchange facility “Nebuta House – Wa・Rasse”

Here exhibits the history and charm of Nebuta Festival, the famous summer festival of Aomori. In addition to five large Nebutas which were actually used in the festival in the past, also exhibits parts of Nebuta which you can touch and introduces unique Nebuta face masks. In the shop, Nebuta suvenears and original handcrafts of Aomori are sold. The facility also has a restaurant which serves various local Aomori dishes.

Lake-Towada

Clear surface of the lake attracts visitor

Lake Towada

Reflecting the blue sky and mountains, the beautiful Lake Towada is a famous volcano lake in northern Japan. Laying at 401 meters above sea level, the lake’s circumference is about 46.2km and the deepest site is 326.8m deep. Lake Towada is the third deepest lake in Japan. Zelcova and laurel trees grow and various wild animals live around the lake. You can follow a pedestrian path to Ryogoku bridge and Omaegahama from the rest house, suitable for a relaxing walk.

If you wish to really enjoy the lake, going on the sightneeing cruise is the best way. Oirase Mountain Streams

From Nenokuchi by Lake Towada to Yakeyama, there continues a stream that is about 14km long. This is designated as National special scenic beauty and natural monument. Being covered with deep natural forest, the views on both sides of the stream are full of energy. Don’t miss to observe the water falls, clear water streams and various rocks. Roads for cars and paths for pedestrians follow along the streams, can be easily followed even by first time visitors.

Lake-Tazawa

The deepest lake in Japan where the legend of Princess Tatsuko originated

Lake Tazawa

A round shape lake, it’s circumference being about 20km and 423.4m deep, Lake Tazawa is the deepest lake in Japan. In the legend, Princess Tatsuko prayed for beauty and when her prayer became true, she drank water from a spring in the mountain. Then, her body changed into a dragon and she became the lord of the lake. Statues of Tatsuko Kannon and Princess Tatsuko were built after the legend. Further, various scenic spots such as Hime Kannon, Ukiki Shrine, Gizanoishi Shrine, etc. are built and various attractions such as a sightseeing cruise were established after the legend.

Ishiguro Family Residence – Old Samurai Residence

Ishiguro family was subordinate to Satakehoku family, the family used to be in charge of financial management. Main residence, gates, walls, storehouses from the Edo period remain in the residence and they are kept well. This residence has two entrances, one in the front and one in the side. This indicates that the family was Samurai of high status. You can enter the residence and tour inside as you listen to a guide. Today, the offsprings of Ishiguro family still live in this house.

Aoyagi Family Residence – Kakunodate Historical Village

Aoyagi family mainly was was in charge of treasury duty, and was a proud family of high status having 104 koku or rice. The roof of the main residence is the thatched roof in the hipped roof style. The main residence is formed in Kagiya style and the rooms are the most glamorous among the samurai residences we can see today. In the 3,000 tsubo property, there is a garden where 600 kinds of flowers and trees grow. This garden is a must see!

Kakunodate Cherry Blossom Tree Bark Handcraft Center 2 (Bukeyashiki-dori)

This is a shop of traditional cherry blossom tree bark handcraft arts using mountain cherry blossoms. You can watch the making process and also can purchase handmade artifacts. Artifacts include various items which you can use in daily lives and as ornaments. The craftsmen can give you advice as to what might be suitable to you. The shop is on the Bukeyashiki Dori street and you are welcome to come in. On the Yubinkyoku Dori street, you can find the historical museum “Tatetsu House”.
